Why do volunteers pay?

Good Heart For Support is an independent organization and therefore does not receive government support to fund our volunteers’ efforts. All our work is 100% funded through your contributions as a volunteer and donations. We solely fund our projects and achieve social goals from the fees paid by the volunteers and donations. The application fee caters for maintaining a secure and effective website, 3 t-shirts, membership, advertising and promotion costs and on-site program supervision. The fees you pay have a carryover effect on the local community long after you go home. This money directly funds the project you are working on, and in turn, many others. All of these expenses are extremely necessary to ensure that your time with us is safe, comfortable, and worthwhile. Without you and all of volunteers before you, the progress and changes we have made in the lives of so many would not be possible.

What more does program fees cover?

  • Airport pickup and drop off at the end of the program
  • Project attachment and some donation fees
  • Internet, SIM card and local calls
  • Local meals (breakfast and dinner)
  • Local transportation (Taxi and Boda-boda)
  • Local support
  • Orientation and briefing

Volunteers’ own costs:

  • Flight fares
  • Visa
  • Vaccinations
  • Criminal background check
  • In-country trips and tours
  • Housing expenses (these expenses are very cheap in Uganda and we help you out in bookings)

Fundraising:

It is always a request (not compulsory) to encourage all our volunteers to fundraise some money at home from families and friends before they come to Uganda. At reaching Uganda you will immediately and directly see where that money is going. Donating money is one thing but to raise your own funds, physically bring it to the Organization in Buwunga and see it being used first hand is a great way of leaving a lasting impact on the community. As a small, local organization, our funds are limited. GHFS sets a budget for our all core activities. However, if you would like to develop these projects further, or do new activities with the children etc. then the extra costs would have to be covered by any money fundraised by you. Since we began back in 2016, to support ourselves we have relied upon the donations of individual donors, sponsors and volunteers, friends, families and small fundraisers held in different countries. Small funds brought by our volunteers go a long way in keeping our established programs running and in starting up new ones.
